CONTEXT
Tasbapauni (also known as Tasba Pauni, Tasbapaouni) is a small and isolated community on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua.
CURRENT STATE
Climate, Natural Disasters and Local Economy
The climate is changing because of deforestation and contaminated water.
The area is subject to floods from rainfall and/or rising rivers and lagoons.
It is extremely vulnerable to hurricanes which ravage the Atlantic Coast every year.
These factors have huge effects fishing and agriculture, which are the main sources of income and food for the community.
Average income has dropped by 50%.
Sanitation and Health
Safe sources of water are not available, nor is there safe sewage disposal. This poses serious hygiene problems and leaves population constantly at risk of illness.
OUR MISSION
Provide support to the community of Tasbapauni by implementing community projects.
ACTIONS
Current projects:
1. Improve the condition of the local school;
- provide sanitation and hygiene,
- repair the toilet buildings that were destroyed during a hurricane
2. Remodel the clinic
- bring it up to standard from its current poor condition
